5 tips for maternity photoshoot

I was really looking forward for my maternity photoshoot in an amazing dress! To gain some inspiration I searched the internet and saw many examples of photoshoots and they were all amazing. I wasn’t quite sure whether I wanted a photo shoot in nature or in a studio. Doing the maternity photoshoot in the nature I thought it will give a mother nature look. Below some pictures of my maternity photoshoot made by plinckfotografie.

  1. Maternity photoshoot dress

For a beautiful photoshoot, the outfit and in this case the dress is very important. You can choose colors that already reveal the gender of the baby. Think of light pink, purple/lilac, blue or dark blue. For those who prefer not to and keep the gender of the baby as a surprise, you can choose any color you like. You can opt for a subtle dress with soft lines or a dress that stands out with lots of ruffles, organza or tulle like I did. An advise I can give is to select a number of dresses for the photoshoot. For some locations, a different dress will just fit better and make the photo eventually look better. I choose about 3 to 4 dresses this to be sure that the dress fits the occasion well. In retrospect I am very happy about this decision and I still feel really blessed with the beautiful weather and the photographer! I hope the same for you to capture these beautiful and special moments with photos.

2. Make an appointment

Some photographers are fully booked months in advance. It would be a huge drama that there will soon be no photo shoot possible and you and your partner just take selfies with the smartphone. Therefore, book an appointment with a photographer months in advance, approximately in the 2nd or 3rd month of your pregnancy. The photo shoot does not have to take place already, the suitable time for the photo shoot is in month 7 of the pregnancy. I myself only had the photo shoot in week 36, but I did have a certain tension because the chance of childbirth is present.

3. You and your partner

For the maternity photoshoot you can choose to include your partner with the photoshoot. It makes the shoot more memorable for both but it absolutely depends on how you feel.

4. Location

Determine well in advance which locations appeal to you. If month 7 falls in winter, you can still do a photo shoot in nature. But you might want to consider your clothes and dress to keep it as warm as possible during the shoot. Of course, this also applies if month 7 falls in the middle of summer, perhaps a pregnancy shoot on the beach is more suitable. Think about backgrounds and locations so that you do not run out of inspiration for the photographer.

5. Professional maternity photographers

Select the best maternity photographers or photographers that specialize to make maternity photoshoots. Really it’s so important that the photographer know what he or she is doing. The dress and location could all be perfect but the right angle is the cherry on the cake for the right photo’s. Don’t be scared to have some demands, this is your moment and you deserve the best photo’s.
